Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups of flour (and extra to keep cookies from sticking)
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup of unsalted butter
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon milk (optional)
- Decorations (optional: cinamon, chocolate chips, craisins, etc.)
What You’ll Need…
- 2 bowls for mixing
- 2 baking sheets
- Electric mixer (or just a whisk – we didn’t have an electric mixer)
- Measuring cups
Step-by-step Guide for Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies:
1. Firstly, ready the baking sheets and preheat the oven to 375 °F.
2. Then, mix the dry ingredients–flour, baking powder, and salt–in a smaller bowl.
Make sure to mix until all three dry ingredients are combined well.
3. Beat the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. It might help to melt the butter until soft prior to doing this.
Then, add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture.
4. Add the dry ingredients mixture to the large bowl, and mix until batter-like.
For easier mixing, add the dry ingredients in two separate batches. Also, you can start using your hands to shape the batter. If still too dry, add milk.
5. After that, shape the batter into cookies and place them on the baking sheets. Now, it’s time to add decorations! You can add cinnamon, chocolate chips, craisins, or whatever you want. For example, we added chocolate chips and craisins, and the cookies were absolutely delicious!
6. Finally, bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden. Leave to cool on the rack, and then enjoy!
