There have been so many big movie hits based on books! Most of the time, I think, the book is better than the film, but it’s still fun to compare them! What are your favorite books that’ve been made into movies? In this blog post, we’re giving you a list of 15 of our favorite books that are also movies!
15. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Beatrice Prior (Tris) is a sixteen-year-old girl who lives in Abnegation, one of Chicago’s five factions. She takes a test to see which of the factions she should join. Afterward, she has to attend the Choosing Ceremony, where she has to decide whether to choose to stay in Abnegation or leave her old faction. Tris discovers she’s a Divergent, meaning she qualifies for multiple factions, and she is warned not to tell anyone.
Personally, I enjoyed the books more than the movie series. The first movie, Divergent, remains mostly faithful to the book and is a good adaptation. In the later movies, there are several plot changes that make the movies less appealing, so the The Divergent Series takes 15th on our list.
14. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Seven guests, a secretary, and two staff stay at a manor on a lone island and are killed one-by-one.
The chilling sequence of events are detailed in the nursery rhyme:
Ten little Indian boys went out to dine;
One choked his little self and then there were nine.
Nine little Indian boys sat up very late;
One overslept himself and then there were eight.
Eight little Indian boys traveling in Devon;
One said he’d stay there and then there were seven.
Seven little Indian boys chopping up sticks;
One chopped himself in halves and then there were six.
Six little Indian boys playing with a hive;
A bumblebee stung one and then there were five.
Five little Indian boys going in for law;
One got in Chancery and then there were four.
Four little Indian boys going out to sea;
A red herring swallowed one and then there were three.
Three little Indian boys walking in the zoo;
A big bear hugged one and then there were two.
Two Little Indian boys sitting in the sun;
One got frizzled up and then there was one.
One little Indian boy left all alone;
He went out and hanged himself and then there were none.
If you’re into mysteries, you’ll love And Then There Were None. There have been several adaptations of Agatha Christie’s iconic novel: one in 1945 and one in 1974, which are both movies, and then a TV series adapted in 2015.

One of Agatha Christie’s famous Hercule Poirot mysteries, Murder on the Orient Express, is also a great movie! On the Orient Express, an avalanche stops the train in its tracks and someone is murdered. Hercule Poirot must discover the murderer before they strike again.

This is an absolute classic and has several adaptations: the 1951 animated version and the live-action 2010 adaptation with Mia Wasikowska.
11. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

There are both animated and live-action adaptations of L. Frank Baum’s iconic story, but the most well-known one is probably the 1939 version with Judy Garland, which you can find on Hulu.
5. The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
The Hobbit is the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. Bilbo Baggins’ peaceful life is disturbed when Gandalf, a wizard, forces him to go on an adventure with the dwarf Thorin Oakenshield and his company made up of 12 dwarves. When the thirteen dwarves, Gandalf, and Bilbo set out to reclaim the dwarf kingdom of Erebor, taken by the greedy dragon Smaug, they encounter goblins, stone giants, and elves along the way. Can they survive and make it in time to reclaim Erebor?
To be honest, the first time I read The Hobbit, it was quite difficult to get through, but after reading it again recently, I ended up finding it very enjoyable! Peter Jackson’s movie adaptation of The Hobbit adds new elements, which has made it controversial in the past in terms of how faithful it is to the books, but I think the movie trilogy is definitely worth watching and great for anyone who enjoys fantasy and adventure!
